Food Preserving Volunteer Training

OSU Extension’s Master Food Preserver volunteer training begins Spring 2026. They invite anyone interested in food access, safety, and preservation to apply, attend a virtual info session on November 18 at 6:00PM, and learn how to become certified volunteers who support their communities through education and outreach. Weight Loss & Diabetes Prevention Course

Columbia Memorial Hospital will be hosting a course beginning February 4th and have 22 sessions throughout the year. A trained lifestyle coach will guide participants to cut the risk of type 2 diabetes in half. Classes will be held Wednesdays, from 5:30-6:30pm. See the flyer here.

Clatsop County Public Health, Columbia Memorial Hospital and Providence Health & Services are leading a Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA) to understand the strengths, needs and challenges impacting health in Clatsop County.

New OHA Funding Opportunity – Application Deadline: August 22, 2025

The Oregon Health Authority has released a new Request for Proposals (RFP) with funding opportunities across 10 public health-related categories, ranging from communicable disease prevention and overdose prevention to environmental health and community resilience. Award amounts and criteria vary by category, with funding ranging from $25,000 to $400,000.

While Clatsop County Public Health is not eligible to apply directly, OHA requires that applicants coordinate with local public health departments. If you plan to apply, please connect with Jill Quackenbush at Clatsop Public Health.

Drought/Well Resources:

These resources are no-cost to residents of Oregon to access, and may be able to connect them to additional resources to help with both short-term and long-term solutions to address Drought Impacts and Water Availability/Wells. Well Water Program from Oregon State University. Contact Emily Reilly, OSU Family and Community Health Coordinator and CHART member for support. Tongue Point Asks for Community Support

Tongue Point Job Corp is asking the community to write letters (template) of to continue operating in the face of “the President’s fiscal year 2026 budget proposal to eliminate Job Corps and the recent halt on student enrollments that has left over 12,000 young men and women in limbo and their careers on hold.” Local Tongue Point Job Corps representatives are:

  • Rep. Suzanne Bonamici (D-OR) - Member of the Committee on Education and Workforce and subcommittee on Higher Education and Workforce Development

  • Sen. Jeff Merkley (D-OR) - Member of the Senate Appropriations Committee and subcommittee on Departments of Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education, and Related Agencies.
